Romania continues to advance in the integration of digital technologies in the educational process. After the Government approved the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2024-2027 in July 2024, with digital education playing a key role, the user base of AI-based digital solutions in schools has exceeded 2 million.
The AI solutions developed by Microsoft enable teachers to prepare the lessons they are about to teach and generate engaging content for students. In turn, students get personalized learning experiences, and parents can receive real-time alerts about any welfare issues their children may have.
In fact, in recent months, school principals have enjoyed easier data-driven decision-making and reporting facilitated by the use of AI-powered solutions provided by Microsoft and partner companies.
"Artificial Intelligence is more than a technological breakthrough, it manages to significantly improve the education system in Romania. The benefits for young people will be seen from the very beginning of their careers thanks to the combination of AI and the talent of these young people, which is supported by 77% of the business leaders who responded to the Work Trend Index 2024 survey. So young people are much more prepared for the challenges of the future, and our partners are working with us to provide them with solutions tailored to their learning needs. We see development potential in young Romanians and we want, by integrating AI, to maximize it, but also to amplify innovation across the country" emphasized Bogdan Putinica, Managing Director Microsoft Central Europe and EurA.
Ascendiaone of the leading e-learning companies in Romania and member of the European Commission Expert Group on Digital Educational Content, is an example of the successful integration of Microsoft AI to transform education. LIVRESQ, the flagship e-learning tool, is already enabling teachers to create personalized and interactive courses without programming knowledge. They can generate lessons and educational content based on the length of the material, subject matter, age of the target audience, language and key words to be used throughout the lesson.
In early 2023, Ascendia began working with Microsoft to integrate OpenAI-developed AI technology into the LIVRESQ core, with the goal of supporting teachers in rapidly creating high-quality educational materials. With support from Microsoft, Ascendia received direct support to integrate these AI capabilities through the Azure platform. The result was the launch in 2023 of the AI Enhancer component, which allows users to easily generate and rephrase text while retaining the intended meaning and tone, while facilitating the creation of realistic and engaging dialog for lessons and lectures. Continuing the success of AI Enhancer, in 2024 Ascendia launched the AI Generator component of e-learning lessons and courses in LIVRESQ. This component analyzes and understands the educational objectives of a lesson, proposing appropriate multimedia content. For example, the creator can set the duration of the material, subject matter, age of the recipients, tone of the material, language and special words relevant to the audience. Once these elements are configured, the AI generates the lesson plan and corresponding content.
In 2025, LIVRESQ is being used by more than 130,000 teachers in 7,100 institutions, developing educational content with the help of integrated AI functionalities. To put things into context, LIVRESQ now hosts the largest library of Romanian educational content, with over 32,260 lessons, open educational resources (OERs) and courses, of which 7,420 are public and 2,358 have shared source files.
"Since 2023, LIVRESQ is a partner of teachers, helping them to create lessons and OERs (Open Educational Resources) in an easy and interactive way. More than 130,000 teachers in 7,100 educational institutions are already using this AI-based program to generate their required lessons. This new way of creating lessons is an innovation in how information is delivered to students," said Cosmin Mălureanu, CEO Ascendia - Thanks to its success in Romania, the company is expanding its operations to Poland, Greece, the Philippines, Austria and South Africa."

Adservio, a leading school management platform in Romania, will introduce LearnMatein partnership with Microsoft. This AI-powered platform is tailored to the learning needs of each student, explaining theoretical concepts step-by-step at a pace tailored to each user. Adservio, by the way, provides school principals with an AI-based personal assistant that facilitates the decision-making process by generating personalized reports and recommendations. Another functionality is Evolution module with AI, which helps students and parents with a clear and personalized overview of their school progress, offering suggestions tailored to each educational path.
"Dimitrie Cantemir" Theoretical High School "Dimitrie Cantemir" from Iasi offers students access to the module Wellbeing AI of Adservio. Children track their emotional well-being, thus contributing to a more empathetic and safer school environment. Students take daily digital quizzes and AI-generated reports help parents intervene quickly when signs of concern arise. Parents also use Evolution module, which interpret their children's educational journey with the help of Microsoft AI.
"Technology has become a key pillar in the education system, giving teachers and principals the tools they need to make the right decisions based on data as well as data analytics. We are proud that, through Microsoft's AI-powered solutions, we have been able to bring our platform to more than 1,500 schools and kindergartens, and more than 1.5 million teachers, students and parents are already active and frequent users of our services. We continue to invest in such AI-based solutions to improve the educational process in Romania," says Alexandru Holicov, CEO Adservio.

The testing process also becomes more enjoyable with the help of the Brio platform, which uses Microsoft's AI-powered solutions to facilitate the assessment process as early as 2023, integrating test/item templates generated based on pre-defined algorithms. 120,000 readiness tests have already been generated using Microsoft AI in the past year. The next step is the launch of preparation tests for high school education, as well as the automated grading function for essay-style tests, components that will be launched by Brio soon.
Gabi Bartic, Chief Operating Officer Brio, explains the role of technology in education: "We believe that a classroom cannot now function without an amalgam of tools that ensure the creation and administration of digital content, student management and assessment using AI, leaving room for personalization and humanization of the educational act."
The use of Microsoft AI in universities is also booming. Avaelgo has created a AI Assistant for Universities. The AI-powered assistant provides key capabilities for students, teachers and staff:
- Admission: Provides real-time personalized guidance throughout the admissions process, answering questions, clarifying procedures and simplifying interaction with prospective students.
- Learning and teaching: It assists teachers and students by generating customized quizzes, labs and exams, enabling interactive course-related conversations and providing structured and relevant answers based on authoritative academic sources.
- Research: It acts as a custom AI toolkit for researchers, capable of managing large volumes of data, organizing and analyzing research materials, and generating concise summaries to improve collaboration and access to information.
All of the above solutions have been developed using the latest Microsoft AI technology, with security principles and responsible AI as the foundation.
